Richfield, north of New London, was settled by
and named for the Ritchie family. Around the turn of the century it was
thriving on such diversification as a shirt factory, excelsior plant, casket
manufacturer, dry goods store, general store, a steam roller mill, a lumber
plant and livery stable. A dentist, a doctor, a drug store, and two barber
shops were also there. Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, built in 1895, is
regarded as the oldest church in town. Misenheimer, Miller, Moss, Parker
and Fisher were familiar family names. Today it is mostly residential
with a few businesses and some industry, also a school.
