Dixie Girls Softball

(Ages 9-18)- This intermediate softball program consists of teams of youngsters living inAlbemarle, and is for youngsters born in the years of 1993-2002. Cost is $50 for city residents and $75 for non residents. Register January 10  February 24 at the AP&R office. Those registering from February 27 to March 5 will be charged an additional $5. A birth certificate is required at time of registration.


EXERCISE CLASSES:

Free exercise classes and open to the public. Step and Flex is offered on Mondays from 1:15-1:30 and Sit N Fit is offered immediately after from 1:30- 2:15. A rotation of classes such as Movin & Groovin, Trim N Tone, Lets Get Kickin, and Stretch N Balance are offered on Tues/Thurs from 8:30-9:15am. Remember all these classes are free of charge!

(Ages 6-8)- This beginning baseball program consists of teams of boys and girls living in Albemarle, and is for boys and girl born between May 1, 2003 and April 30, 2006. Cost is $30 for city residents February 7March 9. Those registering from March 12 to March 19 will be charged an additional $5. A birth certificate is required at time of registration.


Babe Ruth Boys Baseball(Ages 13-15)

This intermediate/advanced baseball program consists of teams throughout Stanly County, and is for youngsters who do not turn 16 before May 1, 2012. Cost is $50 for city residents and $75 for non-residents. Register at the Albemarle Parks and Recreation office February 1 through March 9. Those registering from March 12 to March 19 will be charged an additional $5. A birth certificateis required at time of registration

Tee Ball

(ages 4-6)- This instructional, non- competitive introduction to baseball and softball is a co- ed program in which participation, fundamentals, and fun come first! The program is for boys and girls born between May 1, 2005 and April 30, 2008. The cost is $20 for city residents and $30 and for non-residents who register February 7March 9. Those registering from March 12 to March 19 will be charged an additional $5. A birth certificate is required at time of registration.

2012 Mini-Medley Relay

The 2012 Mini-Medley Relay will take place on Saturday, March 24, 2012.
This ten mile team relay race will feature elementary (grades 4-5), middle school (grades 6-8), high school (grades 9-12), family, corporate, masters (40 and over), and open divisions and will begin at 9 am. A one mile Fun Run will begin at 8:30 am. Registration is conducted by teams, with entry fees ranging from $70 for school age teams to $95 for family, corporate, masters, and open teams. Challenger First Kicks Soccer

This is a new and exciting program that teaches basic soccer skills while developing strength, balance, coordination, listening skills, cooperation and teamwork for children 2-6 years old. Professional, licensed British coaches will make sure your child has a positive First Kicks experience!!!!! Tuesday evenings March 20 thru April 24 at Albemarle Soccer Complex. Vac & Dash Moonlight Half-Marathon and Movie

April 13, 2012 - 10:30pm - 12:00pm - The First Ever Vac & Dash Moonlight Half-Marathon and Movie. Run from the Badin Drive-In to the top of Morrow Mountain and back. Runners will be required to wear lights. We will also provide glow braclets to wear. There are two screens at the Drive- In. Movies will start at sunset. The plan is to show running movies on one screen and regular movies on the other. The race will start at 10:30 pm. Family and friends will be able to relax in a nostalgic atmosphere and enjoy the show while you are racing. Reason to run the race: It involves running, a drive-in and Friday the 13th! City Lake Canoeing Tour Deadline

April 27, 2012 - 9:00am - 5:00pm - Come out and enjoy the scenery and weather with Albemarle Parks & Recreation as they tour the beautiful venue of City Lake Park from the water. This canoe expedition will meet at City Lake Park on May 5th at 2:00 pm. Groups will paddle to the City Lake dam and/or up into Long Creek. Boats will be available. SummerDaze Band @ Locust Cruise-In

The City of Locust host a Summer Concert Series and Summer Movie Series in their beautiful Downtown. On May 20th the band "SummerDaze" will perform. The concerts are always on the same days as the Locust Cruise-In. All performances start at 6:00pm. The Locust Cruise-In starts at 5:00 in the Locust Town Center. The concert series and Cruise In is a great time to get outside and enjoy wonderful music and unique cars in a beautiful setting. LOANER RODS AND REELS AVAILABLE (Ongoing Program)
Whether you want to tangle with the legendary monster catfish in Badin Lake or fill up a stringer on Rocky River, first-time and novice anglers in Stanly County are encouraged to borrow rods and reels free of charge to get in on Stanly County's hot fishing action this spring and summer. The loaner rods and reels are located at Rock Creek Park and provided by the Albemarle Parks & Recreation and the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission (WRC), through the WRC's Fishing Tackle Loaner Program. For fishing information and a complete list of the NCWRC's Community Fishing and Tackle Loaner Programs sites contact Albemarle Parks and Recreation Department at (704) 984-9561 or contact the N.C. CITY LAKE PARK DISC GOLF

A new nine-hole disc golf course is now open for play at City Lake Park. This course, which begins along the lakeside trail and ends near the park amphitheatre, features a design that is suited to the beginning disc golfer, as well as to youth and senior play. Albemarle Parks and Recreation provides disc rental to the public at its Rock Creek Park office, as well as an 18-hole championship-level course at Morehead Park. HIKING CLUB!!

The Uwharrie Hikers, a new hiking club for residents of Stanly, Montgomery, and Randolph counties (and neighboring areas) has been formed and invites members of all ages who enjoy the outdoors to join us for regular hikes and outings. There is no fee to join the club, but members must complete an Albemarle Parks and Recreation release and information form before participating in any club event.
