SINGING AMERICANS TO PERFORM AT MARKET STATION ON MAY 19th
The "Thursdays at the Station" weekly concert series is under way for 2005 at the Market Station facility on West Main Street in Albemarle on May 12. Sponsoring agency Albemarle Parks and Recreation invites everyone out for a great evening of music and fun! This coming Thursday, May 12th, Tapestry will perform on the Market Station stage. Albemarle's own Laura Kerr and Betsy Osborne are the members of this duet, and have been singing together for fourteen years. Tapestry offers a variety of music, with songs ranging from the 1930's to the present, and styles from the Andrews Sisters to Shania Twain. The performance promises to bring back many great memories. Concerts are held rain or shine every Thursday night at 8:00 p.m. from May to August. Audience members should bring yard chairs. Admission is free, and donations are encouraged and accepted, with all proceeds going to the performers. Concessions are also available at all concerts.

Help Send Kayla To The Summer Institute for the Gifted
Kayla is a 5th grade student at Millingport school and had recently been accepted to The Summer Institute for the Gifted, a three week academic program for academically gifted and talented students in grades 4-11. Kayla has been accepted to the program at Vassar College, which will be held June 25th through July 15th. All tuition must be paid in full by 6/13/05. Kayla is a member of the soccer, basketball and battle of the books teams. She is in the science club and also the AIG program at her school. It has been a big challenge for me (being a single mom) and I have always tried to teach her to make the best choices. This program is something that she made the decision to do on her own. I am so proud of her. What 11 year old wants to spend a majority of their summer on education? She has baked cookies and sold them to raise money, had a yard sale and planned a car wash. We have worked so hard but are still very short on tuition. I really would like to make this work for her. I do not want a thing like funding to stand in the way.
