Ballroom Dance

Another 9-week session will start Tues., Mar. 23 and will cover the Rumba, Tango and Cha Cha. Michael Stowers who has many years of professional dance experience and teaching will again be teaching these classes. Cost is $45/person. You will need a partner. SilverArts Showcase

There will be a SilverArts Showcase of the 2010 SilverArts entries on Tuesday, April 27th from 10am-3pm. We invite the public to come and see the beautiful works of Art (some of which took 2 years to complete) displayed. Each entrants work is really something to be proud of! We will also have a dessert bar for you to enjoy. The event is free and open to the public. SilverArts is a part of Uwharrie Senior Games. Registrations are open to anyone 50 years old and older. The deadline for entries is March 26. Uwharrie Senior Games consists of a wide variety of activities from baseball throwing, Table Tennis, doing a performance, or just plain having a good time at the cookout! There is an activity for everyone! Applications are available at the Senior Center, 283 N. Third St. and Albemarle Parks & Recreation office at Rock Creek Park. If you are interested in participating in Uwharrie Senior Games or SilverArts we would enjoy having you! If you would like more information, call Oliver Webster at 704/984- 9560.

Rainbow Stompers
Competition Line Dance Group

Practice for the Rainbow Stompers, led by Laura Wheeler, will begin Mon., April 5 from 6pm-7pm. Practice will be Monday evenings from 6pm-7pm. Anyone that knows how to line dance is welcome to join this group, just show up. They will perform at the Silver Arts Follies during the Uwharrie Senior Games & Silver Arts Closing Ceremony on Friday, May 7th at 5pm. If you are a past participant the entry fee is $10, first timers have the entry fee waived. Last year, the group won first place!

Carolinas Aviation Museum

$39 per person Due at time of registration OPENS: JAN. 12 Tues., April 27, 2010 Deadline to Register & Cancel: Fri., Mar. 19 Join us as we travel to Carolinas Aviation Museum, located at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. This museum houses restored aircraft: commercial, general, military, helicopters. They have interactive displays. Some of their featured aircraft are a Piedmont DC-3 and Grumman OV-1D. Being close to the airport, we will be able to watch aircraft that are taking off that day. Oakboro Cruise-In and Burnout

5:00pm - 10:00pm May 28, 2010 -
The shiny cars, photo opportunities, friendly conversation and the burnout are what continue to pull people monthly to the Oakboro Cruise-In. The Stanly County event pulls in around 6,000 or so people and 500 cars if the weather is pretty. The event is on the fourth Friday of each month. Cars start arriving around 3 p.m., but it actually starts at 5 p.m. At 9 p.m., the Burnout begins, filling the streets with soft billowing smoke, tire squeals and cheers from the crowds. The Burnout is conducted April through October, while the Cruise-In is a monthly event. For more info, visit www.OakboroCruiseIn.com.


Locust Movies in the Park

Knitting-Knitting

Knitting-Knitting has resumed on Tuesday mornings, from 10am-Noon. If you are interested in learning to knit, please just show up. The instructor will tell you what materials you need the first day. This class is free of charge, all you have to do is supply your own materials.

MEN MAKING A DIFFERENCE
This mens' service club provides assistance to families and mentoring for youth in the South Albemarle community. The group meets at the E.E. Waddell Community Center on the first and third Mondays of each month at 6:00 p.m.


YOUNG WOMEN IN ACTION
This womens' service club gives young women ages 9 to 18 the opportunity to learn through mentoring with positive role models. No registration or dues is charged. The group meets every Saturday afternoon from 1:00 to 3:00 at the E.E. Waddell Community Center.
