Absolute best bacon cheeseburger I've ever had! The bacon is super thick and crispy, unlike any I've gotten anywhere else! All time favorite burger!

After months of traveling around and got back home, I decided to give "the Pines" another chance, since I really am a lover of some good BBQ, but alas,....still the same ol' dried out venue as before, and like Sonny's BBQ(YUCK city), they rely much too much on a sauce that is repulsive at best. (Um....learn other ways to use all that vinegar!) For my money, I'd take a trip up Hwy 52 to Salisbury to Richard's BBQ...the absolute best I've found within at least 30 miles from here. The only real thumbs up I can give "the Pines" is they have curb service, which is usually pretty quick, convenient and most o' the time very courteous. If I'm in the mood for BBQ while in town, that's about the ONLY reason I'd go there again. Tip the curb hops well....it's not THIER fault afterall how the kitchen works(or doesn't)!

The BBQ has been in my opinion, a bit on the dry side, and to those who tend to praise the sauce, BBQ shouldn't be based on that, but the pure smoked flavor and moistness of the meat! Forget the sauce, gimme some real food, and if you're not in the know, they also don't take debit cards...you'll find out after you try to pay for your meal and find you have to go across the street to the ATM. A family owned tradition it may well be, but it needs some tweaking.

Whispering Pines used to be quite good but look, this stuff barely qualifies as barbecue. It's over cooked, dry, and tasteless. I can perceive no smoke taste in it at all. If it wasn't for the sauce and slaw it wouldn't have any taste. Even so, the sauce is basically just vinegar (too sour) and the slaw is so sour I can hardly eat it. C'mon, this isn't barbecue. You would get basically the same thing by taking a pork roast and pouring vinegar on it. My advice - go to Lexington for some real barbecue.

Bar B Que is excellent and the slaw has no equal in NC. Bar B Que is still 100% wood cooked and has no soy filler like many other BBQ restaurants. Still family owned and operated since 1945 and cooks shoulders Eastern style. Also has old style curb service.

Since I've been a "local Volunteer Fire Department Member" for 20+ years and the past 4 as a Chief, I thought I would "weigh" in. Most of the local departments model themselves after Pines, and work hard to be better. Sometimes we are and often we are not. This long time business, provides a consistant product year after year. EVERYONE likes to be a BBQ critic, and I think I am, since I've cooked the ole pig for over 20 years. I like BBQ from Pines and their sause is second to none.

WORST BBQ in town - should take lessons from some of the local volunteer fire departments who only BBQ once or twice a year - there's is much better. Poor customer service - they are down right unfriendly.
